The first step to accepting a new credit card type (such as American Express or Discover) is to contact your Merchant Service Provider (MSP). Your MSP is the company that acts as your financial institution. They deposit funds into your bank account and maintain your merchant account with Visa and MasterCard. They are also the company that charges you the percentage discount rate on your batch settlements.
Your MSP can make the necessary arrangements and updates with your payment processor to enable you to accept the new credit card type.
After your MSP has updated your merchant account and the payment processor, please review the card types listed within your Authorize.net account:
- Log into the Merchant Interface at https://account.authorize.net/.
- Click Account from the main toolbar.
- Click Merchant Profile from the menu on the left.
- Under Payment Methods, review the card types listed.
If the new credit card is not listed, reach out to Auth.net's Customer Support to have it enabled.
Note: Only Account Owners and Account Administrators are allowed to enable and disable card types.
To enable a new card type:
- Log into the Merchant Interface at https://account.authorize.net/.
- Click Contact Us from the upper right corner of any Merchant Interface page.
- Click Create a New eTicket.
- Verify your contact information, enter your request in the space provided and click Submit.
Auth.net's Customer Support will then review your request.
To check the status of your eTicket at any time, click Contact Us from the top right corner of the Merchant Interface, and then click Manage Existing eTickets. Once Customer Support has responded to your request, you will see a yellow banner at the top of the Merchant Interface. Click View eTicket from the yellow banner to review the response.
Note: It is important to follow all of the steps explained above. Adding a new credit card type to your Authorize.Net account without completing the steps properly may result in errors with your credit card settlements and may delay funding from your MSP. You can also apply for the card type through the credit card provider directly:
- American Express - (800) 528-5200
- Discover/Novus - (800) 347-6020
- Diners Club - (800) 525-9040
- JCB - (800) 522-9345
If you have applied for your account directly with the card provider (such as American Express or Discover), you must provide your merchant account number for that card type to your MSP and then follow the steps outlined above.
