To configure PayPal as a gateway for your account, you'll need to provide some very specific credentials from your PayPal account. This will actually require logging in to the PayPal Developer Portal. If that sounds intimidating, don't worry! We're here to guide you through the process.
First things first: you'll need to log in to your PayPal account (if you don't already have a PayPal account, then you'll have to start there 😉). Then, look for the "Developer" link in the menu on the top right.
Click that, and you'll be taken to the Developer Portal. Look in the upper right again for the button to log in to the Developer Dashboard.
Click and then you'll need to log in to the Developer Portal with your PayPal account credentials. (You should be able to use the login and password you already use for your PayPal account.) Then, on the dashboard, look for "My apps & credentials." Under "REST API apps," click the button to create an app (Be sure the toggle is set to LIVE and not Sandbox).
On the next screen, enter a name for your new app (you can use any name that will make sense to you, but you can't include the word "PayPal" in it).
Make sure the App Type is set to "Merchant" and the Business Account matches your existing PayPal account. Then, click on "Create app."
Next, you'll see the Client ID for your new app. Copy and paste the value exactly to use it in configuring your new payment gateway in RaiseDonors.
Click "Show" to view the Client Secret.
Copy and paste the secret ID to use it in configuring your new gateway.
Then, you can return to the main Developer Dashboard and log out of PayPal.
Once you've found your IDS and configured your gateway, you'll be all set to add PayPal to your donation pages.
