MailChimp is an email marketing platform that helps you design email newsletters, share them on social networks, and integrate with services you already use, like RaiseDonors
- To get started, you'll need to navigate to the MailChimp integration screen:
Account Settings -> Integrations -> Email Integrations -> MailChimp - Check the "Enable MailChimp" checkbox.
You'll be presented with two text boxes and a save button:
- MailChimp API Key
- If integrations fail, where would you like notifications sent? - MailChimp API key:
You'll need to enter your MailChimp API Key in this text box.
Not sure where to find the API key? Follow these instructions to get started. - If integrations fail, where would you like notifications sent?
In this text box you can enter email addresses of people on your team who should be notified if the integration with MailChimp fails for any reason.- For example, let's say the MailChimp API is offline and you are receiving donations from donors who wish to subscribe to your mailing list. RaiseDonors will now email you to let you know.
- If this ever happens, just let us know and we can re-submit the integration to move those names into your MailChimp account with no problem.
Additional options
When you click the "Save" button your integration will be activated. However, now that your account is connected, new options will appear that will allow you to dial in your integration.
Add to List
This dropdown list will provide you with a list of all Audience lists you have in your MailChimp account. Select the list where new names from RaiseDonors should be added to inside of MailChimp.
List Field and Merge Tags
If you use required Field or Merge tags in your list, you can add them here.
The fields that integrate from RaiseDonors to MailChimp are:
- First name
- Last name
Note: You can find these tags in your MailChimp account in the List fields and *|MERGE|* tags section under the Settings area of your chosen list.
Tags
If you use Tags to help organize or segment your contacts, you can supply one or multiple tags. Multiple tags need to be separated by a comma. MailChimp provides tips and how-to's for using tags.
RaiseDonors will automatically add a tag to anyone who is a first time donor. This setting is not configurable. The name of the tags are:
- "RD-FirstTime-Donor" - a first time donor placing a donation
- "RD-FirstTime-Recurring-Donor" - a first time donor placing a recurring donation
Group Options
If your list in MailChimp has associated Groups, they will appear here and be selectable. When selected, names from RaiseDonors will be placed in those groups when the integration from RaiseDonors occurs.
